Simply select the colors of the first three bands from the following table, and the indicated resistance value will be displayed immediately below.
As will be evident, the first and second bands determine the base value while the third digit sets the order of magnitude. A fourth band, if present, usually specifies the tolerance value. A gold or silver band represents 5% or 10%, respectively, while no band indicates a 20% margin.
Please note that there are othermarking schemes in use, particularly for precision resistors. This calculator is designed for the most common type, namely three colored bands followed by one (or no) gold or silver band. Eventually I'll add support for other marking schemes as well.
